Day 3
Langdale - Grassmere
Cold and wet today. a few of us have already had breakfst- cereal with MILK!!! Hooray!
We're all tired and soar. There might not be a lot of picture taking today.
WE'RE HERE!!!!!
After an earlish start of 9.30am we made good progress and surprised Jill and steve when we met them along the road some where. After changing our original route from climbing a mountain to cimbing a hill, Pikey decided to cut the corner and take us up a fern covered, rather large hill. This was to the displeasure of many as the road looked like a nice stroll.
But Pikey with the map, as always, dragged us up the hill while Asa and I threw threats and contemplated loudly about how the road was a better route.
Finally we reached the top and we were in the clouds! and turned to the downward journey. Funnily enough we seemed to be following these 2 sheep- well untill we found ourselves trapped at the corner of hadrians wall! some clever skills( well scaling the wall) showed us that if we follow the wall we could find an actual path down! The zig-zaged path proved a delight for everyone and once at the botom asa swallowed his pride and said thanks to Pikey as we had cut a good hour off our journey ( I reserved judgement until my performance at nationals a few days later). we finally made it to grasmere and are currently decideing our next move before exiting te cafe.
oh and the sun has decided to show it's face.
after recapping the most recent journe of the hill in the clouds where asa colapsed hyperventilating. we came to the conclusion that we should try the church for the vicar. $ churches we went in to find a vicar in rder to complet one of our top secret missions. None of them had a vicar or a priest in a 50 yard radius- no matter how much Pikey persisted!
After one particular church, dan, sporting his bright yellow disneyland poncho decided that the vicar must have escaped in the 'vicarmobile' and proceeded to sing the batman theme tune but using vicarman. A re-enactcment of the vicar's escape was soon followed with the cry- 'quick alterboy, to the vicarmobile!'
After a quick visit to William Wordsworth and the rest of his family and the dog's grave and a stop at the Grasmere gingerbread store- not forgetting the many photo stops with the Pink umberella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh. which we got many funny looks about!
We finally met up with Jill and steve at the Pub with 2 names- no idea whats going on there.
after a very enjoyable 3 days full of laughs, singing, photos, walking- a few moans and some random weather it was time to make the voyage home. Pikey having fell in love with grasmere wound down the window and waved at many as we departed- he even wolf whistled at some old ladies!
